Pleated Electronic Textiles for Wearable Technology
May 28, 2019
17:00 - 21:00
Location
Berlin Open Lab
How does the practice of pleating differ from other textile fabrication techniques, and how could pleated electronic textile sensing structures applied in body-area networks inform expression through textile wearables? This 4-year research project aims to investigate how novel soft circuits can be created through constructing electronic functionality as sculpted dynamic objects. In particular, we will look at the textile technique ‘pleating’ and experimental modifications thereof; to explore aesthetics, performativity and interaction potential of pleated textile wearables.
We will show a first series of pleated e-textile samples that were developed in collaboration with textile and costume studio Arantza Vilas / Pinaki Studios.
